The cantata, “The Story of Beth- lehem,” by John E. West, will be sung by the choir of the new Chevy Chase Presbyterlan Church (east at 7:30 o'clock. This organization of 26 singers is approximately six months old, but has accomplished re- sults exceptional in a volunteer choir, The cantata has been sung in ‘Washington but once before, but is full of the richness which character- izes all the works of the great re- ligious composer. A plaintive pas- torale velleves the two major choruses—the last chorus ~being broken by a largetto movement of great appeal. There is but one tenor solo, while the bass solo work is al- most entirely recitative. Through- out the work recurs the majestic theme with which the organ intro- duces the subject. The first part of the work will fol- low the ancient plain song, “Veni Emanuel No. 1,” sung as a proces- sional, while the Christmas hymn, “Brightest and Best of the Sons of the Morning,” by Harding, will be used for a recessional.
