While Vis death was unexpected to his friends and assoclates, it had been expected for some time by mem- bers of his household. Signs of fall- ing health had been evident, they said, since his attendance at the na tional Democratic convention in New York last Summer. Gov. Campbell was one of the best known Democratic chiefs in Ohio and also was widely known among na- tional party leaders and frequently consulted on party policies. He was stanch supporter of James M. Cox at_the San Francisco convention in 1920.
