HAGERSTOWN, September Confident that they are living in a house which has suddenly become haunted, Mrs. S. H. Mozingo today appealed to Sheriff Richard Duffey to help her solve the mystery. She told of unseen visitors, damaged clothing, scattered money and unlocked doors. 25— For more than a week, she declared, the Mozingo household had seen these mysterious visitations. The woman, who is 52 years old: lives alone with her 85-year-old hus- band, and manages her farm of 18 acres, doing most of the work, in ad- dition to her household tasks. Dur- ing the summer she gave a home to two 15-year-old girls. The favorite trick up shoes and clothing. Apparently a sharp knife was used and a num- ber of pairs of shoes were entirely ruined. Mrs. Mozingo's clothing were barb, other vegetables: quart or pint apple butter, grape butter. The cutting usually took place on the second floor, while members of the family were on the first. Bits of clothing would be hidden in unlikely places, apparently by fiendish inge- nuity. Then notes, written in a strange hand, began to make their appear- ance, signifying that the presence, of the two girls was distasteful to some one, and that any measures necessary would be taken to force them to leave. Vengeance was a prominent word in the notes. One, written on a box lid, bore merely “good-bye,” and under it was found a blood- soaked handkerchief. Today Mrs. Mozingo sent the two girls from the house, fearing their safety. Several times during the past few weeks fires have been started in the house, and only prompt action on the part of the woman has saved the place from destruction. for | 4 EVENING STAR, ‘ROAD HOGGING’ CHARGED D.
