The National Shrine of the Immac- ulate Conception, now under con- struction at Catholic University, is to be the largest edifice of its kind in North America and one of the great- est basilicas in the world, according to Rev. Dr. Bernard A. McKenna, sec- retary to Bishop Shahan, rector of the university. Dr. McKenna is also director of the National Shrine. The church is being erected by voluntary gifts of money and jewels. In speak- ing of the great cathedrals of the world, among which the National Shrine will have a prominent place, Dr. McKenna sald: Reflects Divine Perfection. “All earthly beauty but in a faint way reflects the everlasting splendors and perfections of God, and all the forms of grace, of beauty, and of sym- metry we see {n nature are only faint shadows of the perfection and of the beautias of the great Creator, who impressed His perfections on His creatures.
