SPRING CHICKENS ARE IN ACTIVE DEMAND Commission Merchants Charging 50 Cents Per Pound in Whole- sale Market Today. -— EG@ PRICES HOLD FIRM Agriculture Department Reviews Vegetable Situation. Large spring chickens seemed to Be the most popular product on the Washington commi wholesale market today. Springers, two pounds or over. would bring about 50 cents a pound. Hens were not so active, being draggy at ahout a quarter or 26 cents, in some instances. Live calves are suffering the draw- backs of hot weather, and it was un- derstood top grades are bringing only % to 10 cents at the most. Lambs are mofe favorable as a hot-weather meat, and their price was said to be from 14 to 15 cents a pound.
