The Big Midsummer Event When This Store Shares Profits With Its Customers and With Its Salespeople Never has the Palais Royal been so pleased to share its profits with its customers as this year. ! customers who seemed to realize the herculean efforts of our executives and buyers to give them extraordinary values. harder and have secured merchandise on which we can give still better values for our profit- sharing sale. And we share profits not only with our customers by cutting our profits far below the margin necessary to conduct a year-round business, but we share profits with our sales- people, to whom a percentage of sales is paid. You profit, they profit, we profit. We Know and | Sharing Profits By John IY". Laird, Director of Research The Palais Royal, Inc. The man who hoards his profits is a miser. The man who disregards his profits is a fool. The man who shares his profits with those who help make them is good and wise. The American public has developed a rather keen consciousness of fairness which is finding ad- mirable expression in the relations between em- ployers and employees. The day has gone by when a selfish taskmaster and profit hoarder can dictate his own terms with- out regard for the rights of his employees or the public, whose co-operation is necessary to his suc- cess. Interdependence has replaced independence and profit sharing has supplanted profit hoarding. The Palais Royal is far from being perfect. Never- theless it is resolved “to go on to perfection” in the service that it would give both to its faithful and effi- cient employees and to the public. For twelve years there has been an annual profit- sharing sale in June at The Palais Royal. In this sale the employees as well as the public share with the owners of the store the profits that are made. The regular salaries of the salespeople are supplemented by a given percentage on the actual sales made by each salesperson. In this way the problem of vacation money is somewhat solved. The public is given the full benefit of careful and selective merchandising on the part of the store BUYERS, whose offerings during the sale will more than ever mean the saving of thou- sands of dollars to our patrons. Every buyer in The Palais Royal has been to the source of supplies securing up-to-the-minute merchan- dise for the great Profit-Sharing Sale. For several days there has been pouring in a constant stream of brand new merchandise—hundreds of new dresses; thousands of yards of piece goods, including silks, wash fabrics and novelties; numerous pieces of choice furniture, in- cluding dining room, living room and bedroom suites —in fact, everything that one would expect to find at The Palais Royal Profit-Sharing Sale. A e e e A e A A A A A A A A A A A . e e At e A, The sale will last a week. Nevertheless, early shop- ping is always wise shopping. We are prepared for and are expecting a very successful sale. No wonder women wear them for every sort of daytime occasion except formal affairs. ' The last word on xtyle.r—aduance information from Paris says “Skirts are going up. Straightline frocks continue the vogue, many of the evening gowns being beltless; others have a belt in front but beltless backs. The last - minute hat is a high crowned, straight narrow-brimmed affair of the Directoire period. Of course there are dozens of other models, for particular occasions and costumes, but there always has to be a “last one” you know, and as the old darky said, “This am it.” Red or white camellias are being worn instead of the gardenias, and two on the shoulder are exceedingly smart. Ostrich trimmings are used on daytime dresses as well as evening gowns. Quantities of bracelets are being worn, the new wide ones lecdmg in popualarity, with the heavy link bracelets still in demand. Ropes and ropes of pearls, short and long combined, sometimes falling below the waist, are fashionable. Large beads also, in choker length, with round ball earrings to match. Then there are collars of several strands of beads with a center front fastening. Feather boas are quite the thing again. The latest perfume is Houbigant’s Subtilite. mer note. The coat is three-fourths or seven-eighths length, unlined, matching the dress of one piece, or flannel skirt. White leads the colors, with poudre bleu, medium greens and yellows following. Then there are the trim little bright-colored sleeveless jackets bound with white silk mohair braid, for the youngsters. The latest in corsets, which every other woman in the world seems to be wearing, is of pure rubber, and makes you look thin while getting thin. Those are magic words, for women must get thin at any cost. However, the cost is not prohibitive and the corsetiere can give you all the fine points.
