U, S. ASKS ATTORNEY AT GOLDEN GATE QUIT Attorney General Stone’s Message to Williams by Wire Based on Department Charges. REPORT BY INVESTIGATORS Negligence. and Inefficiency Are Alleged by Officials Here. upon his action, but during the day he received a report from depart- ment investigators bearing upon the question after complaints had been made of the conduct of the office by Mr. Williams. The Attorney General had received no reply last night to his telegraphed request for theresignation and said he had given no thought to a suc- cessor. The first two years of Mr. Wil- liams' term in the San Francisco office presented a record above re- proach, department officials said, but they explained that conditions in his office and under his direction have steadily grown worse in the last six months. The exact nature of the difficulties was not disclosed. e Kendall Bible Class Speaker. Representative Samuel A. Kendall THE SUNDAY STAR, 'WASHINGTOR, D. There will be also a noticeable lull in the calls of individuals and groups seeking patronage. He can, for the first time since last December, start the day's work without a shud- der at what Is likely to follow before night. Change in Schedule. With this change in his dally schedule, the President will put in just as many hours at his desk. At least, he indlcated yesterday to call- ers that that is his intention. It is thought likely. though, that he may arrange his time so as to permit him to spend more time each day in the C. either to walking about the city or else motoring.' It is probable that he will do an equal amount of each. However, the coming week will not hang heavy upon Mr. Coolidge's hands. There is always plenty of work to do and much to think about. But, aside from this, the convention in Cleveland will occupy much of his time. Although he has repeatedly let it be known that he is “keeping his hands off” the convention, his inter- est in the proceedings, both in the convention itself and in the little rooms where groups of leaders will gather, will be keen. He will keep in close touch with his lleutenants on the scene of action. Direct Wire Comumection. There is ‘a direct telegraph and telephone wire between the White JONE 8, ‘1924—PART 1. The speech of Frank Mondell of ‘Wyoming, as permanent chairman, and the speech to be made by M. I. Allegations by Senator King, Demo- crat,, Utsh, regarding negotiations of the Lausanne treaty with Turkey, led Secretary Hughes yesterday to derry, in a letter to Chairman Lodge of the foreign relations committee, “that the United States participated in the Lausanne conference for the sole purpose of securing and confirm- ing the Chester concession. “At po stage of the negotiations,” the Sécretary wrote, “was the Ameri- ecan position determined by that con- scession.” 5 WOODMEN SEND TRIBUTE.
