Men of conscience, law-abiding, gather where the brooks are gliding, when they're feeling dry and thirsty, when their innards call for juice; being merely mortal critters, they may long for old time bitters, such as vintners and distillers were accus- tomed to produce. They may gnash their moral tushes for the old an- heuser bushes, for the temples of Budweiser, where the corkscrews used to twang; but they curb the godless longing, and we see them crowding, thronging, to the margin of the brooklet, in a law-respecting gang. There, like lambkins slaughter, they kneel down drink the water that will rust their costly gizzards and déstroy their diaphragms; that the law may be unbroken all their inner works they're soakin’ in the pallid juice that gurgles back of weirs and ferdams. But the scofflaws, and fri fill themselves with boot- leg whisky, and they care not for the statutes and they laugh to scorn the law; and they jeer the brave up- liiters who avoid illegal snifters, they bring shame upon the nation, for their work is coarse and raw. Let us join the noble martyrs who have torn their Sunday garters, bending down to drink the brooklet, side by side with cows and mules; let us shun the bootleg quaffers, let us join the moral gaffers, let us seck 'a pure refreshment in the horse- ponds and the poo!
