McCarl was assailed and defended Westerday before the committee, which had before it two bills—to clarify and to restrict his authority, with the opposition to McCarl headed by Representative Dallinger, Republican, ©f Massachusetts occupying most of the day. At the next hearing of the committee devoted to the bills, which .is expected to be the last be- fore it takes up the matter in ex- ecutive session, the plan is to hear the Attorney General and the con- groller general himself. No date has Been set for the hearing.
