HUGHE {Special Dixpateh to The Star. NEW YORK, April 10.—Price changes in today's bond market were very ir- regular, but in the main the tendency of speculative Issues was downward, while the high-grade investment bonds were firm and in a few cases higher. This would be an altogether loglcal distinction once it fs granted that the current talk about indus- trinl depression is well founded. If money is not to be needed {n busines: it must find employment in bonds and in bonds only of undoubted In- vestment merit. At the same time |indications of a movement of this kind were very slight. Certalnly there was no rush today to accumu- late even the soundest of bonds. Lib- jertys were all firm, but not much higher. High-grade rails were steady, with supply and demand about equally balanced. The same was true of the high-grade industrials and utilities, taking the United States Steel sink- ing fund 5s as typical of the former and American Telephone and Tele- graph 5%4s as representing the latter, Nor could it be said that the Dawes {commission report had much effect {upon foreign bonds. French were all firm around the highs of the year, but not especially active. Else- where the list was steady. Speculative domestic issues moved more or less in sympathy with stocks. Railroad bonds held their position better than industrial obligations. There were, however, no outstanding points of weakness, as has frequently been the case in the past month. American Agricultural Chemical 7%s seemed to have discounted whateve is unfavorable in their position, for the present at least. . Rubber and tire bonds sold around their recent lows, but for the most part did not break them. There were numerous points of strensth among the utili- ties, notably in the tractions such as Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit 6s and all the Interborough bonds. Trading in the speculativ. was marked by continued firmness in Erie convertible “D's” and in the Sea- board issues, while there were minor reactions in the New Huven and St. Paul bonds rails |FLOOD OF BUYING .
