Former Slave Was Employed at Orphanage Farm. “Uncle” Cornelius Burke, who served St. John's Church Orphanage for more than thirty years, died Fri- day, and was buried this afternoon, ; |following services at St. Mary's Epis- copal Church, 23d street between G and H streets. “Uncle” Burke, as he was affec- tionately called, was born a slave. He served in the civil war, and, com- ing to Washington, was engaged to care for the farm of the orphanage.
