Platt Andrew of Massa- "husetts, republican, issued a formal statement today on the effect of the so-called #oldiers’ bonus upon tax re- duetion. Representative Andrew was an in- struetor and assistant professor of ccoriomics at Harvard. He was expert assistant and editor of publications of the Natlonal Monetary Commission. He was director of the mint, and later as- sistant secretary of the Treasury. He served in France for four and one-half years continuously during the world war. He came out as a lleutenant colonel, and was awarded the croix de guerre’and the legion of honor medal by the French army and 2 distinguished service medal by the United States Army. By the Associated Press, CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., January 10. —As the beginning of an offensive against the bootlegging fraternity, the First Baptist Church of Rossvills, Ga., has organized a men's club pledged to pay a reward of $25 for every oftender arrested, convicted and sent to prison for at least twenty- nine daye, in the territory represent- ed and served in the church. Members of the Baptist congrega- tion have no intention of taking the 1aw into their own hands, it is stated, but express the belief that if law- lessness {s to be checked it must be done in a large meusure by Christian men and women. It is stated that upon apprehension and conviction of bootleggers checks will be issued by the treasurer of the church, fugds to be replaced by the men's club.
