n20: ; REDPLOTTOKILL RIVERA REVEALED Many Communists Smuggled Into Spain by Portuguese " Are Arrested. ' By the Associated Press. * PORT VENDRES ON THE FRANCO- SPANISH FRONTIER, December 28. —The communist plot, although the first reports were thought to be sreatly exaggerated, appears to have been a well-organized effort toward revolution with the widest ramifica- tions. The Portuguese leaders in the movement acted in the closest touch with comrades in various parts of Spain, and astutely took advantage of & recent Intornational assoctation foot ball match at Seville, played be- tween teams of Spaniards and Portu- guese, in order to Introduce into Spain daring men belonging to their organization. It is generally reported that the mayor of Seville obtained knowledge ©of a plot against Gen. Primo Rivera, president of the military directorate. He is said to have been informed that ten professional assassins had taken up their residence in Seville with the intention of killlng Gen. Primo Rivera when he made bis in- tended visit there. l Round-up Leaders. The government police immediately took Steps to round up the foment- ors of the plot, and found documents which led to tha arrest of many dozens of communisty in other cities of Spain. These men now are in jail, The reason for the postponement of Gen. Primo Rivera's visit to Seville was the knowledge that the plot had been formed. Gen, Primo Rivera usu- ally does not take undue precautions with regard to his personal safety. He displays the greatest bravery Wwhen in attendance upon public func- tions and shows almost reckless dis- regard for the possibility of at- tempts being made against his life. It Is believed through the prompt action of the authorities a movement was stified which might have had sinister effects in Spain, as numerous elements of the discontented are said 10 have been waiting an opportunity to start trouble. Rumors Are Thick. Tolitical circles are filled with ru- mors of the difficultiés with which the government is faced, coming from varlous quarters. Politcal ad- herents attached to the former regime ure known to be active behind the scenes in an effort to restore the previous influence, while the military men are not absolutely in unison re- garding the system adopted by the military directorate. Among the rumore, some of which are of a fantastic nature, may mentioned one—that a strong ele- ment, composed of army officers, has pointed out to the directorate that the members of the military govern- ment are falling into the old habit of attending banquets and receptions, instead of attending solely to the work of the government, and have expressed fear that they will eventu- ally evolve into a new political party with vices similar to those which preceded the September revolution, CO-ED’S POPULARITY LAID TO SELFISHNESS More Snubbing She Does More Sought After She Is, Says Analyst. PALO ALTO, Calif., December 28.— Only sixty co-eds at Leland Stanford University are “stellar steppers,” while the remaining 440 have to be content with but scattering attem- tlons from the 2,200 men in the insti- tution, according to the Daily Palo Alto, a student publication.
