BELGIAN BOXER WINS HARD-HEADED TITLE PARIS, December 20.—Henri Heb- rans, the Belgian featherweight. being haifled in French sporting cir- cles today as probably the hardest- headéd fighter known to the ring. It developed overnight that Edouard Mascart of Paris, who won the Eu- ropean featherweight title by defeat- ing Hebrans on points here Tuesday night, broke his right hand in the third round of the fight with Hebrans in landing a_ blow on the Belgian's head. The doctors have prescribed two months' vacation from ring ac- tivity for Mascart while the maimed member is healing. Contact with Hebrans' cranium had already cost Eugene Criqui the feath- erweight championship and caused his temporary and perhaps perma- nent retirement from the ring, Criqui having shattered his left hand some time ago in a bout with Hebrans and thus being unable to meet Mas- cart and defend his title. Mascart and Criqui dre as one in declaring Hebrans' head is harder than that of any pugilist they have ever met. Some one has explained this by the story that one of the most popu sports among lusty lads -in LIGF , Hebrans’ home, is a game of trying to split an inch board by butting it with the head after a short run.
