FRANK CRANE, Modeler. Marim Louisa Lander, well known in Washington art circles, died last Wednesday night at her home, 821 Beacon street, Bostony and was ‘butied at Salem, Mass. Miss Lander has spent the past thirty | years in Washington, and was ninety- vears old last September. Miss Lander was born in Salem, and early in life ghowed an adepiness with clay and brush. In 1855 ghe went to RRome, where she was a pupll of Crawford and other Italian ma ters, under whom she studied sculp- ture and painting. Amonk fome of her works are a bust of Hawthorne and Gov. Gore of Massachusetts. Others are statuettes of Virginia Dare and Undipe, a life-size statue of Vir- ginla and another of Evangeline. Among the portraits painted by her ig one of J. Pierpont Morgan.
