THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 1923. | The Truth About Transmigration BY DR. FRANK CRAN! Eureka! 1 have discovered the secret, the truth about the transmi- gration of souls. Transmigration 18 generally supposed to mean that when one dies his soul passes into a cat or dog or some other animal, which dying in turn hands the soul on, very much like who's got-the- thimble, until finally it gets around again to man, whereupon it begins anew. Orlentals believe in this. Now, the gist and kernel of reality in this external and parabolic form and symbol s this—it Hashed on me this morning—to wit: That each day is a lite! To awalke in the morning is the same as being born, and to drop asleep at night s just like dying. Morning s youth, noon middle age and night senility. The moral quin- tessence of all you do today s dis- tilled in the crucible of sieep ana flavors your tomorrow. There you have transmigrgtion, the soul passing through death (sleep, and coming Into new life today, which will be happy or miserable accord- ing as yesierday was good or bad. Of course, this would never do as the creed of a religion. It Is too sim- ple. Hence the idea Is elaborated— for day put life; for tomorrow put subsequent exlstence; for yesterday put pre-existence; for persistence of personality put 'transmigration of soul—and you have something fan- tastic enough for a popular faith. I told my discovery to a Buddhistic Chinese friend. He smiled, shook his head and sald: “No! Missed!” For all that T am going to cling to my idea about this until I get a botter one. Very often we find that it is impossible to grasp certain great theories, or principles, such as Ein- stein's relativity, or finternational politics, or the tariff question, or the woman. So we construct for ourselves a simple working model which, although we know it is im- perfect and perhaps wrong, has to satisty us. It i3 curfous to see the mental con cepts that our small minds have ot great subjects. MRS. ANNIE T. HOEHLING, MOTHER OF JUDGE, DIES Funeral Services for Widow of Ad- miral Will Be Held To- morrow.
