Cooke as rector of the Church of the Ascension, 12th street and Massachusetts avenue, will be observed tomorrow. Special sermons will be preached at the morning and evening services. An interesting feature of the call- ing of Rev. Mr. Cooke to Ascension Church 1s the fact that twenty-odd years ago he was ordained to the priesthood in this church and became assistant there. He was also mar- ried in the church Within a short time the parish will issue & year book covering the prog- ress of the parish during the first year of the rector's incumbency. This book will contain a list of all of the many parish organizations and th work that they are doing: a financial statement of the condition of the parish and a general outline of the plans for the future. Freeman is to lay the corner stone of the new St. James' Episcopal Church at Indian Head, Md, next Thursday afternoon. Before the war the population of Indlan Head was considerably in- creased by the Navy ordnance plant at that place, and the expansion which took place during the war further in- creased the, population. The Eplsco- nal Church has struggled to keep pace With the increasing number of church people. The origmal St. Jam Chapel was sold three years agoand plans made for s larger and better ullldlnl The new church is the re- sult, At the ‘last convention of the dlo- cese of Washington the town,of In- dlan Head was separated from St. John's parish, Charles county, and created a separate congregation, un- der direct jurisdiction of the bishop. The building of the new church edi- fice progressed sufficiently during the summer to warrant the laying of the corner stone, but the ceremony wi delayed until the new bishop was co! ecrated.
