RADIO NEWS ‘With the aim of encouraging and upholding the constructive work of the amateur radio operator, WRC has set aside a period of its afternoon programs three days each week for code practice, Starting tomorrow, the lessons will be given on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Each lesson will be -of twenty minutes’ duration divided into three sections as follows: 1. Elementary instruction for beginners, presup- posing a knowledge of international code letters of the English alphabet and the ten numerals. This section will take ten minutes of the period. . Low speed transmission of straight text, presupposing ability to receive at low Epeeds or between five and eight words per minute, five letters to the average word. This section will last for five minute 3. Five minutes of transmission for those looking toward qualification for amateur licgnses. This trans- mission will be’ at speeds of from eight to A n words per minute. Many requ@sts from amateurs in ‘Washington %ind nearby the incorporation of a code practice period, caused the Radio Corporation of America station to add the fea- ture to its program.
