Markowitz and Wife Under Padlock Injunction. Because the government failed to show wilful violation of a “padlock" injunction, Chiet Justice McCoy ¥ terday afternoon refused to adjudge Abraham Markowitz and his wife, Mary, in contempt of court.— The rule against them was dismisted at the equest of Attorney James A. O'Shea. The Markowitz keep a near-beer sa- loon at 911 41, street southwest, and in & raid on the premises prohibition agents claimed they found them selling clder containing 83 per cent of alcohol. An injunction was secured and agents again visiting the place alleged they bought hard cider. Markowitz claimed he bought the cider two days before the last visit of the prohibition agents and that it was then sweet according to test. The court held that the law had been violated by the husband in selling the cider after it had been permitted to become hard. His act however had not been shown to be wilful, the court found. The charge against the wife was dismissed at the end of the govern- ment's case, it not being-shown that she had anything to do with the sale after the injunction. —_— In olden times actors were forbidden Christian burial TODAY’S AMUSEMENTS, BELASCO—"The First Yi comic tragedy, second week, at p.m. POLI'S—"“The Breaking Foint, mystery play, at 8:30 p.m. KEITH'S—Allan Rogers and Leo- | nora Allen, vaudeville, at 2:15 and | 8:16 p.m. STRAND—"Songs and Scenes,” vaudeville, at 2:45, 6:30 and 8:45 p.m. RIALTO—House Peters, in “Lost and Fouhd.” photoplay, at 11:30 a.m., 1 1:30, 3:30, 5:30, 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. COLUMBIA—Agnes Ayres, in Heart Rahlers” at 10: 2 2:25, 4:20, 6:10, 7:55 9:656 p.m. PALACE—Alice Brady, in Snow Bride,” at 10:55 a.m. and 1 2:25, 4:20, 6:10, § and 9:56 p.m. METROPOLITAN—Marjorie in “Wandering Daughters,” am. and 1:45, 3:45, 5:40, Daw, at_11:50 7:45 and CRANDALL’S — Rupert Hughes' “Souls for Sale” at 11:10 a.m. and 12:45, 2:35, 4:15, 6, 7:45 and 9:30 p.m. Y —we have Blank Kooks foday and every day.
