THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, D. O, MONDAY, JUNE 25, 1923. w1 llllllllllllll.llllIIIIIIIIIIIIIlllIIIIIIIllllllllll.llllllllllIllllIllllllllllllllIIllllll - SOVIETAELD SHS [ NOW ARE ICEBOUND: U. S. Trading Schooners Or- dered to Report When the Passage Is Possible. By the Assoclated Press. SEATTLE, Wash, June 25.—The Sliver Wave and the Blue Sea, two of four American trading schooners that were this week reported held by soviet authorities at East Cape, Siberia, are fast is the ice of the Arctic ocean, at Cape Yahan, 700 miles northwest of East Cape, ac- cording to word received yesterday. Their crews are not in custody, it o a8 stated, but the vessels are under orders to report to East Cape when the ice permits them to move. Discussing the plight of the ves- sels, which include the Belinda of Nome, Ilaska, and the Iskum of Ta- ‘koma, Wash., traders called attention to the fact that the Bellnda, Silver Wave and Blue Sea cleared from American ports before establishment of the soviet regime, and therefore might be held entitled to American protection, despite the fact, pointed out by the State Department, that American vessels now enter Russian waters at their own risk. The status of the Silver Wave and the Blue Sea was given in a wireless message received by Olaf Swenson and Co., owners of the Blue Sea, from Dudley E. Holden, their busi- ness agent, who is on the trading schooner, Chukotsk, in Bering sea. Mr. Holden reported that the ice In the Arctic is unusually heavy this year.
