Future. “If your personalities have been de- veloped here in the atmogphere of one of the most noted schools In the country, then your responsibilities are infinitely greater to the state and nation than those who have been less fortunate in not having the atmos- phere of such a school and such & capital,” declared Rey. Dr. James E. Freeman, bishop-elect of Washington, in addressing the 470 graduates of Cen- tral High School in the school audi- torium last night Freeman denounced the cynics imists of the country's future ared: “I want to say to you boys and girls, as a man past middle age, that thiv {s an era of the great- ost ‘possibilities, hopes and expecta- tions.” " Urging the graduates to dis regard cynics and to discount th theories that America is in a process of decline or decay, Dr. Freeman said there was only one way to face the future with any degree of assurance, and that was to front it with hope, expectancy and belief in the best. The first four-year class to matricu- late at the new Eastern High €chool recelved diplomas at ‘the com- mencement exercises last night, by Justice Wendell P. Stafford of the District Supreme Court. Despite the intense heat, the school auditorium was crowded by relatives and friends of the ninety-five graduates. Justice Stafford pointed out that Washington is one of the greatest universities in the world. He referred to the city’s architectural master- pleces, the countless conferences held here and numeroug other features, and told the graduates that*if they did not obtain a profound: education in such an environment they would have no one to blame but themselves.
