Copyright, 192 HONGKONG, June b.—Interesting figures showing profits of the Brit- ish government in the cplum traffic, which it conducts in the Orient, are contained in the annual report of the Hongkong colonial treasurer. During 1922 British receipts from the Hongkong opium monopoly showed a 41 per cent increase over the pre- vious year. According to the report, the increased profits are due’ to greater sales, prices having remained unchanged during the year. i Opium receipts for 1922 amounted to 5.551.305 Hongkong dollars. The Hongkong dollar is equal to 65 cents gold. Receipts for 1921 were 3,938,197 Hongkong dollars. The opium sales A fixed percentage of all opium ales go directly to the British gove lon.
