P e s MEDIUM'’S TIP STORY DENIED BY SCHWAB Laughs at Tale He Played Market on Advice From Spiritualist; Not Even Interested. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, May 19.—Published statements that Charles M. Schwab had been influenced in financial ven- tures by the advice of spirit mediums gave him a laugh last night when he was told of their circulation. Mr. Schwab, reached by telephone at his country home in Loretto, Pa., sald: “That is absurd. That is the most ridiculous thing yet. First of all be- cause I ‘am not interested in the stock market, and secondly because I am even less interested in any such thing as spiritualism.” ‘The story that Mr. Schwab had vis- ited spiritualistic mediums was cir- culated when Charles B. Manville said he -had invested money on a medium's advice because he had been informed that Mr, Schwab was one of the spir- itualist's best satisfled clients. The facts were brought out in a guit for $21,000 started by Dr. Alonzo Eugene Austin against “Mr. Manville. Dr. Austin charged Mr. Manville had in- dorscd two notes for that amount. Mr. Manville, in a counter-claim, said he had peen induced to purchase $25,000 in oil stock from Austin which he now declared was worthless.
