COLORADO BLDG The sub- | morrow morning at 11 o'clock at the'l CHURCH WILL BURN $12,000 MORTGAGE Immanuel Baptist, 15th Street and Columbia Road, Free From Debt. The mortgage on Immanuel Baptist Church, 1501 Columbia road, which was pald off when the balance was subscribed last Sunday, is to be burned with speclal exercises tomor- row. The original debt on the church was $50,000, of which a balance of $12,000 remained until last Sunday. About eighteen years ago the church was organized over the post office on Park road. Shortly after the present site was_purchased and this, together with improvements, left the small membership heavily indebted. Not until the present pastor, Rev. Dr. Gove G. Johnson, came to Immanuel, about eight years ago, was there any definite attempt to clear the church of this obligation. Four years ago a plan was carefully devised, under a five-year program, for accomplish- ing this end. Though a year is yet to run under this plan it was con- sidered advisable to make the final effort at this time in order to save interest and also to secure a co ditional legacy made available only upon the complete paying of the pres- ent debt.
