FINLAND FAGNG VEAING PROBLEN Cabinet Forced Out, Govern- ment Withoyt Leaders Un- til After Election. BY HAL OFLAHERTY. By Wireless to The Star and Chicago News. Copyright, 1922, . STOCKHOLM, May 18.—After forc- ing Premier Vennola and the other members of the cabinet to resign, Finland's parliament now faces the difficult task of supplying some sort of government until the general elsec- tion next fzll. Both the right and ~ left parties informed Finland's pres- - ident that they were unwilling to ac- * cept the responsibllity of forming & new cabinet, while the center party is violently opposed to the suggestion that the Vennola cabinet remain as &n emergency government until the election is held. Only Ome Solution. Only one possibility of solvi: the provlem exists and that s by Wow: ng the present minister of justice, Von Hellens, to form an interim gov- ernment with the Finnish minister to Paris, Enckell, as forelgn minister. This resolution may be approved. but the bitterness aroused by the War- eaty d the recent loan from Britain brought such a wide bre between the political partiea that several weeks may elapse before any action is taken Loan Arouses Protest. The loan of 4,000,000 pounds, a ranged in n, has aroused storm of protest from Finnish tndus trial leaders as well as from the le: soclalists. Business men see in the terms of the loan what they charac- terize as an “unbreakable grip on Finiand's whole economic and fnan- cial policy.” Despite protests, the loan was sanc. tioned by parliament by a vote of §: to 31. The immediate effect of th loan has been to raise the V‘gll of the Finnish marks on the neighboring exchanges. CRISIS QUICKLY ENDED BY BRITISH CABINET Committee to Probe Teacher Super- annuation, at Which Govern- ment Balked. By the Amociated Press. LONDON, May 18.—The crisis pro- Jected by the defeat of the govern- ment in the house of commons Tues- day evening has passed as suddeniy as it arose. The cabinet, after a coun- cil lasting an hour and telegraphic communication with the prime min- ister at Genoa, has decided to carry on and appoint & select committee to investigate the question of teachers’ superannuation, refusal of which in the first instance led to the govern- ment’s defeat. The government affects to treat the defeat as & minor matter, but exam- ination of the division lists shows that not less than fifty-eight govern- ment supporters, equally divided be- tween unionists and liberals, voted against the government. Rain of Gasoline. A well that spouts gasoline from the earth like a cloud of steam was recently struck fn the Many Island aistrict in Canada, twenty-five miles northeast of Medicine Hat. Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering de- scribes the rush which followed the discovery, in which people stood all night before the Dominion land office to be among the first to file leases in_the morning. The well is = natural arillin and the gasoline with wiich the gas is_“wet” is not of commercial nificance, as it is only a temporary condition. However, it is said th: several owners of “fiivvers” were quick to seize the opportunity to in a few weeks' supply of gas holding out their hats.
