BY I. A. FLEMING. The fourth annual convention of the District Bankers' Association will be In full swing at Hot Springs this time next month. These conventions have been of great benefit in the dissemination of financial knowledge, both among senior and junior bankers—the dis- cussions have been on topics of vital importance to every bank man, official or employe, dnd, in addition, better and more cordial relations are estab- lished among bankers and their jun- ior officials, through the socjal fea- tures of the convention. This year's program promises to be of rare excellence. John B. Larner. president of the Washington Loal and_Trust Company, and executive head of the association, will review at considerable length the activities of the organization during the year of his Incumbency, including the suc- cessful search for a home for the or- ganization and its protege, the Wash- ington Chapter, A. L. B., from whence come the trained bankers of future Washington—and present as well. Victor Deyber, chairman of the convention, was fortunate In the selection of the chairman of the pro- gram committee, Howard Moran, vice president of the American Security and Trust Company, and Mr. Moran in turn drew a coterie of able mef around him. « Gov. George J. Seay of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, will be one of the chief speakers; William M. Williams, formerly commissfoner of internal revenue, has been secured for an address on the “income tax,” which continues to be of vital interest to every one, more especially to bank- ers. The dolngs of the Washington Chapter, A. 1. B., should be interest- ing, and will be told by the retiring president, W. J. Waller of the Amer- icay National Bank. E. J. McQuade, himself a graduate of the chapter, will conduct the sym- posium from which much is expected. The prize winning essays of the chapter contest will be read and made the subject of discussion by Jjunior and senfor bankers. Other speakers will be secured and the convention will be one of the best from the technical standpoint of banking. There, will be three afternoons in addition to one entire day at the Hot Springs _devoted to the pleasure of the bankers and their guests. There is no need to worry over the family dinner or the entertalnment program. Will W. Spaid has that in charg Edward J. BOSTON M: 11 (Special).—The wool market exhibited no softening of prices, but the volume of business was not so great as it has been re- cently.: This is due largely to the ac- tivity In the west, where the compe- tition for new clips has spread to the Oregon and Montana shearing camps. Growers still are holding firm for higher prices which mills in many instances are fiot disposed to grant. The forelgn markets in London, Au: tralasia_and South America all are firm and local dealers are operating extensively in each. —_— FOREIGN EXCHANGE. (Quotations furnished’by W. B, Hibbs & Co.) DILS LEAD LOSGES ON CURB MARKET By Special Leased Wire to The Star. NEW YORK, May 11.—An gecumula- tion of overnight selling orders by com- mission houses and pr‘ssurz from the professional floor element caused de- clines on the curb exchange today. The selling was principally in the oil issues which Had been the active features in recent weeks and, although short cover- ipg caused rallies from time Lo time, the tendency was downward during othe greater part of the'session. The supply in the Stanrd Oil Issues came from houses which had been the active buvers in the past and this fact caused con siderable comment around the room and made converts for the bear side tempo- rarily at least. Declines Orderly. Standard Oil of Indiana gnd Im- perial Ol of Canada were aniong the leaders on the reaction. but many other Issues also were in supply. The decline, however, was orderly in all the high priced shares. Mexican Seaboard showed resistance on short covering. ThLis stock started its re- action some time ago when other Stocks were firm and as & result of the drop, the technical position ap- pears stronger than in others. Fens- land Ol was well held on the an- nouncement that the company had brought in a new well in the Salt Creek fleld with. an output of 1,000 barrels a day. The well is near the famous Tea Pot Dome. Marine Ofl was firm. selling orders on the specialists books having been withdrawn be- {cause the new Fensland well is on property which offsets the Marine company's 0 acres. e wasds drive on Omar Oil said !to have been engineered by important interests to obtain control in the open market. Exceptions to the downward trend were the newcomers which were listed yesterday. Sugar Stromg. Cuban Dominican Sugar was the outstanding feature, advancing to a new high on active buying by a prom- inent stock exctange house. Daniels Motors reached a new top. Phillip Morris was slightly lower, but To- bacco Products Exports held fairly well, Radfo common was heavy and Dubilier Radio was lower in sym- pathy. The motor stocks were irreg- 0. ng stocks were quite active and easy. Profit taking in Interborough 8s at a recession was a feature of the bond market, which also was easy. | Washington Stock Exchange BAl LES.
