Edward Bouton, chief of artillery under Gen. Sherman in the civil war, and said to have been often consulted as strategist by both .Gen. Sherman and Gen. Grant, died at his home here after an illness of two years. He was eighty-seven years old. He is survived by a widow and a son, Ed Bouton, 4r., both of Los Angeles. Gen. Bouton was born in Avoca, N. Y., April 12, 1834. He was in business when the civil war broke out, and organized Bouton's Battery of Chicago (Battery 1, 1st Regiment, Illinois Light Artillery). TILDA P.
