A. A. Division Denies Charges of Laxness. Denying that the American Auto- moblle Assoclation countenances vio- lations of the traffic law, and that the assoclation is the natural enemy of trafic policemen, Willlam Ullman, president of the local @ivision of the A. A. AY has just fssued the follow- Ing statement: “There 1s & mistaken impression in some quarters,” said Mr. Ullman to- day, “that the American Automoblle Association might adopt as its slogan paraphrase of a great declaration and say: “‘Our members! May they always be right, but our members right or wrong! “I shoyld like to correct that Im- pression by stating that the A. A. A, doesn’t want among its membership those motorists who knowingly break trafic laws and drive irrespective of the rights of other users of the high- ways. and streets, be they pedestrians or automobilists. “The A. ISTANDARD WAY OF ATTACHING AUTO BUMPERS IS DEMANDED e and Trouble Due to Difh- culty in Mounting Various Types Now in Use. There are few accessories on the market that cause automobile' users more expense and trouble than bump- ers, owing to the difficulty of prop- erly mounting or attaching them. In the usual method of mounting the bumper it is clamped to the top of the frame-horn by a special casting which comes with the bumper. Tt is & common experience, however, for the clamps to become so loose that in case of a collision the bumper would slip out of place and be of very little protection. Other types of the drilling of holes In the horn, but many instances have curred where the drilling of the holes has weakened the frame to such an extent that a collision would ¢ disastrous results owing to breaking of the frame-hor mountings have been patente used as regular equipment by mobile companies. The extensive applica- tion of bumpers by automobile own- ers as accessorfes and the fact that these afford _protection In citles where the trafiic is congested has in- fluenced several manufacturers to quip cars with bumpers as standard equipment. Manufacturers who not do this have recognized the ad- visability of designing their cars so that bumpers can be attached quickly and ecasily at no great expense to the automobile owner. Another reason for facilitating bumper attachment is the granting of reduction in collision insurance premiums for cars equipped with bumpers. The advantages of bolting the bumper directly on the frame-horn, usini holes drilled to some standard by the automobile manufacturer, are that this avoids the use of an ugly looking fitting which some of the ings now on the market r provides more rigidity than ther type of mounting, with est ease of installation: involves liklihood of loosening if the es a severe blow; and the cost of installation’ very very thor- by the automoti is being | members ,% S‘IS 00 DOWN—SIS OO A MONTH ‘ONLY 12 MONTHLY PAYMENTS PAYS FOR THIS GARAGE IRON CLAD GARAGE €0, Inc..
