RAIL UNIONS SPLIT ON STRKE BALLOT Leaders to Put Accepting Pay Cut Up to 409,000 Men in Different Ways. By the Associated Press. v CLEVELAND, August .25.— After two days of conference in an effort to prepare a joint strike ballot for the 409,000 members of the five big railroad transportation labor organ- izations, the chief executives, execu- tive committee members and assist- nt grand officers of the engineers, remen, trainmen, conductors and switchmen were unable to agree yes- terday on the wording of the ballot and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen decided to prepare a sep- arate ballot, the other fourgorganiza- tions agreeing on one ballot. ‘W. G. Lee, president of the trainmen, said this did not mean a division of strength within the brotherhoads, but merely a difference of opinion regard- ing the phraseology of the ballot.
