They stated that other ¥iamburg-American _ directors _insisted upon his retirement. Secretary Weeks Extends Tour Abroad to Three Years. By direction of Secretary Weeks, the tour of forelgn service of officers | and enlisted men in the Army in the | Panama Canal Zone and the Hawatian Islands hereafter will be three years instead of two years, as at present. The length of foreign service in the | Philippines is limited by law to two years, except upon individual request, but an effort is to be made to obtain legislative authority to increase the tour to three years. At the personal request of Maj. Gen. F. J. Kernan, who has commanded the ! Philippine Department for nearly two | years, Secretary Weeks has extended his tour of duty in the archipelago an additional year. It is estimated that a saving of nearly $306,000 a year will be effected by placing the Army on a three-year foreign service basis | for all outlying possessions. ————— Not long since an American woman of wealth made the Londoners sit up and take notice by promenading in Hyde Park escorted by a pet pig. The little porker was, of course, a perfect aristocrat of the sty, wore;a becoming blue ribbon and a daidty little coat, but his grunt was the same as “that of the most plebefan »ig, and his tail just as curly. b!
