REFUSE FORD TESTIMONY. Further Evidence Against Senator Newberry Denied. Requests of Henry Ford's counsel that more evidence be heard in his contest for the seat of Senator New- berry, republ of Michigan, were denled yesterday by the Senate com- mittee conducting the hearing, and a practical termination’ was given to trial Spenc formal ruling, referring to the Ford demand for permission to go into the bank accounts of Lyman D. Smith, New York broker, who helped finance the Newberry cam- paign, drew an equally formal dis- sent from Senator Woicott of Dela- ware, democrat. Mr. Wolcott said that he would probably ask that Sen- ator Newberry be called in his own case, but wanted to reserve the mat- ter for later decision. Judge Murfln, representing Senator Newberry, offered no testimony when THE -EVENING counsel for Mr. Fo announced their last witness had been heard under the committee’s ruling. He inserted into the record some of the transcript of evidence taken in the criminal proceedings against the Newberry campaigners last year and stopped with that, indicating that he would not even seek opportunity for argument. Ifir Lucking said,” however, that Ford counsel desired to be heard be- fore the full Senate ehctl.onl com- mittee.
