Cooper, president of the i Unyon and the United States savings | banks, was chosen president of the Continental Trust Company yesterday afternoon. 2 The election of Mr. Cooper is said to be the initial step in the negoti: tions that may, resuit in the consol dation of the three banks. During the next thirty days th: i shareholders of the various institu- tions will be asked to ratify & propo- { sition for this merger. than B. Scott. one of the founders of the Continental Trust Company. and its retiring president, has been anx- ious for many months to retire from active business. He will retain a stock interest in the Continental { Trust Company, and be chairman of the board of directors. - I In the event of the negotiations reaching consummation the title of the merged institution will be the Continental Trust Company. It will {be a matter of future consideration whether present quafrters of the trust company will be retained as the main office or the present quarters of the ! Union Savings Bank be occupied as the home office. The United States Savings Bank would be retained as a branch bank, as it has an exclusive field and is a very successful institution.
