Her voice is & beautiful soprano. full of melody and pathos and rich in dramatic fire and power of exccution. Also she is an actress of first rank, and her exoel- lent work in the combination of these two talents, together wl(h her attrac- tive personality, served to make her a favorite from the start The difficult_role of Scarpia as in- terpreted by Giuseppe Montanelli was a highly dramatic as well as vocal success. Full opportunity was given for wide and varying use of his powerful baritone, which was taxed to the limit, and never once did it fail to score a triumph in registering a required emotion. Giuseppe Agostini, tenor, rendered an exceptionally good portrayal of the painter lover, and he has never sung better in this city than during last night’s performance. His work with Miss Taylor in the last act was one of the most enjoyable bits of song in the evening's entertainment. Other members of the cast included Amedeo_Baldi as Spoletta, a police agent; Manuel Perez as Sciarrone, & gendarme; Pietro de Biasi as Casare Angelotti, a political prisoner; Natale Cervi, in the role of a sacristan; Pietro Canova, as a jailer, and Barron as a shepherd boy. The orchestration throughout was beautiful in itself, but, as in previous performances, too loud to permit a full enjoyment of the voices. The scenery was beautiful, lending a truly breath-taking finish to the highly dramatic climax in the death of Scarpia and the exit of Floria Tosca at the end of the second act. La Tosca furnishes only two chorus num- bers and the second one in last night’s performance was very im- pressively rendered. “Cavalieria Rusticana.” by Pietro “I Pagliacci” by R. and will be produced this Mascagni.
