It appears in many ways on the new spring hats. One sort is made with a straw brim and a round, big crown covered with ‘white woolen yarn wound around and around and around it. A big tassel finishes the trimming. You can noy buy lace for collars and cuffs all made in circular fash- fon, just ready to fasten on the carved neck ‘of a You know how difficult it sometimes is to fit a straight piece of lace to a round neck. It is often impossible if you wish to have a flat appearance. Where this is especially desirable, remember the curved lace by the yard. It comes in ecru and cream and white, and in different laces. The same thing comes in a fine pleated georgette, organdy or crepe de chine. This is, of course, often more suttable than lace to finish off the neck of a frock of one of these materials. Organdy trimmings are sold in so many styles that it is difficult not to find one for trimming an organdy frock. For instance. a narrow edging made of little doubled loops of or- gandy almost like a fringe Is made in dark blue, various light colors and in white. Sometimes these trim- mings are used on serge and tricotine, for the day has long since gone by when we hesitated trimming a frock of wool with a cotton fabric. In the gingham frocks the rickrack braid is often of a bright co! color. Chenille is used as an embroidery fabric, and is applied in lovely de- signs on frocks of net as well as on those of silk. The sash tying in a huge bow on the hip is still a favorite guise of this accepted accessory of fashion. The flaring Medici collar is wel- comed back into fashion by many women who love this type of neck- wear. It forms an admirable back- ground for almost any type of neck, and it does away with that difficult line at the back of the neck that the medieval neckline exposes. This line is lovely on.some women. But in the thin neck it is always difficult. The Medici coflar is a regular cloak of charity in hiding it The panel at the side formed of tucks or narrow pleats is featured on many blouses as well as jackets this spring. It is used, of course, on the slip-over blouses that hang straight to the hips, without belted in he waist. ‘well Sashes of many kinds are sold in the shops. The padded or embroidered satin coat and the black cherry have gained a popularity thus far this spring that 1s almost startling. Startling it really is if perchance you are_wearing a hat with black cherries dangling over your left ear and have it pointed out to you that no less than fif- teen women you pass in a block also are wearing black cherries, lush and large, usually dangling over the left ear. You have probably ceased to be sur- prised at the mushroom popularity of the quilted satin coat. Six weeks ago it was spoken of as a novelty. It was in- teresting, and when you conceived the idea of getting such a coat you thought you had lit upon something quite dis- tinguished. Hundreds and hundreds of those black satin coats must have been ordered or bought ready made in a day. They be- came ubliquitous—almost as ubiquitous among the women in the New York shopping districts as sealskin wraps ap- peared a month before. “What They Wear.” And, of course, that may be exactly what you like. Your idea of being well dressed may be always to wear the thing that five out of ten of the women who are_obviously interested in clothes select. You may never feel so satisfied with your clothes as on the occasion when you observe that the hat or frock or wrap that you have selected to wear at the tea hour is exactly llke that chosen by at :least one out of four of the women at the other tea tables. Then your motto of being in fashion is to wear what “they” are wearing. Is it being worn? is (he question you ask before you make any selection. Of course, your taste and judgment may not revolve along these lines. But thers are many women with whom it is characteristic. Now if you want to go with the ma- Jjority. buy your quiited satin coat, your black cherries.
