3 Miss McQuown to Speak Miss Sterlmg to Wed * Howard C. Knotts beth Smart to Ensign Keane Announced — Mrs. Cameron Engaged to Capt. Snow. The engagement of Miss Charlotte . Sterling to Mr. Howard C. Knotts, Wwhich was announced a day or two @go, is of unusual interest in Wash- ington, because she is practically a ‘Washington girl, coming here as a little child with her parents, her father, the late Representative John A. Sterling, being in Congress from Illinois for seventeen years. Miss_Sterling_graduated from the Bristol School in Washington and is also a graduate of the Wesleyan Art School of Tilinois. She served as pri- vate secretary to her fathér. taking the place of her brother the last two years of the-war. The wedding will take place in June, following Mr. Knotts' gradua- tion from Harvard Law School. .He is the son of Mr. Edward C. Knotts, United States attorney for the south- ern district of Illinois, and Mrs. Knotts, who have a home in Spring- field. During the war Mr. Knotts served as a second lieutenant with the 17th U. S. Aero Squadron on the British front, attached to the British royal air forces. He was twice wounded and was taken pris- oner. As an American ace he has an official record of eight German planes and was decorated by the Prince of Wales, who bestowed upon him the British _distinguished flying cross, during his yisit in this country. Mr. Knotts graduated from Knox Col- lege at Galesburg, Ill., in 1916. Mr. and Mrs. James W. Smart of ‘Washington and Herndon, Va., an- nounce the engagement of their daughter, _ Elizabeth, ~_to_ Ensign Thomas J. Keane, U. S. N. Mr. Keane 48 a native of Galway, Ireland, and 2 graduate of both the University of Ireland and the Royal College of Ire- jand at Galway. On his naturaliza- tion and entrance into the Navy he was appointed official aid to the commandant of the naval station at Great Lakes, IIL, which position he has held for three years. The wed- ding will take place early in June. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Lee announce the engagement of their daughter, Adelaide de Pendre, to Capt. John Ainsworth Andrews, U. S. A. The wedding will take place in June. Mrs. Charles Leicester Payne of Montclair, N. J.,, announces the en- agement of her daughter, Mrs. Mar- aret Payne Cameron, to Capt. Wil- liam A Snow, Corps of Engineers. Mrs. Cameron is the granddaughter of Mrs William H. Payne of New York, and the widow of Lieut. Douglas Tilford Cameron, 7th Field Artillery, 1st Division, who was killed in action during the Meuse- Argonne offensive. Capt. Snow is the son of Maj. Gen. Wwilliam_J. Snow, chief of fleld ar- tillery, 1940 Biltmore street, Wash- ington. He graduated from West Point, class 1916. During the world war Capt. Snow served with the 2d Engineers, 2d Division. He was awarded the distinguished service cross, the Chevalier de Legion d'Hon- neur and the croix de guerre Wwith two paims. Capt. Snow is at present taking an advanced course at the Massachusetts Institute of Technol- ogy, from which he will graduate in June. Former Representative John H.
