Two regimental flags, made by girls at Tech and Central High schools, were formally presented to the 1st and lll{ 28 Regiments of the Washington High School Cadet Corps at impressive cere- ||: monies ~yesterday afternoon on the Hilipse. A crowd of more than 1,500 persons, among them high Army and Navy officers, District government and public school officials, viewed the exer- cises. In a brief address, Secretary of War Weeks paid high tribute to the cadets, and impressed on them that they must take their studies seriously if they are to become educated and useful men, ready to take the place of those who are now doing the nation’s work. “America is the greatest country in the world,” he gaid, “and as you re- || celve these colors of this great.nation, you are expected to do your part in o Il-"‘ this nation even greater than Cites Worth of Lessons. “Take the worth-while lessons you are learning now in cadet life into real life,” continued Secretary Weeks. ‘Take matters serfously and find an opportunity not only to be thoroughly educated, but to be useful men in the future.” The colors made for the 1st Regi- ment, composed of companies at Cen- tral and Western High schools, was presented by Miss Rose Killian of the former institution. Miss Margaret Moore of Tech High School gave the second regimental flag to that regi- ment, which is made up of companies at Busihess, Tech, Eastern and Junior High achools. Battalion Presented Flag. Tn addition to the colors, a pennant- shaped flag was presented to the 3d Battalion of the 2d Regiment, com- posed of Companies E and 1 of Busi- ness High School and M of the O Street Junior High School, by a trio of Business High School girls, Ola Hohm, Selma Dennison and Margaret Rout. This battalion has been offi- clally designated as the first honor battalion of the High School Cadet Corps. In other words, it is the first battalion to reach the standard of efficiency set by school military au- thorities. The ceremonies en the Ellipse fol- lowed a parade of the cadet brigade up Pennsylvania avenue. The cadets formed at 6th street and marched up the Avenue past the White Houe, led by the Navy Yard Eand Tee 2d egiment in the procession was head- ed by the newly organized fife and drum corps. After the presentation of the colors the brigade passed in review before Secretary Weeks, Maj. Gen. John A. Lejeune, commanaant of the Marine Corps; Lieut Richard R. Day, U. 8. M. C, military instructor of the cadet organization: Capt. L C. Shepherd, U. 8. M. C., and Col. M C. Buckey of the coast guard Commissioners at Exercises.
