HOURLY SALES OF STOCKS. liam 193700 12m... 1pm 43440 zpm INDUSTRIALS SOFT, WEAKENING LT Early Strength Shown in Rails—Specific Causes for Special Losses. BY STUART P. WEST. NEW YORK, March 30.—The stock market started out today under the stimulus given by yesterday's news that the railroad problem was being taken up seriously by the heads of the government at Washington. For first hour railway shares were strong, with some of the low- priced issues in active demand ut ris ing prices. The strength in the rails held the industrials section steady until now familiar weak spots began to crop out here and there among iR- dustrial stocks. First, it was the Central Leathers, common and preferred, then Har- vester, then the metal shares. The extreme weakness in these stocks in- fluenced heavy profit-taking in the rest of the list, and by afternoon this selling had checked operations for the rise and brought about a fair- 1y general decline. the Speeific Causes.
