GENEVA, March 20.—A case of a man’s heart coasing to beat for four- teen hours and then resuming work is repprted from Bern, whers & pastor of that city, the Rev. Mr. Bauden- bacher, after belng oficially declared dead, suddenly awoke. The Rev. Mr. Baudenbacher, aged fifty, and suffering from heart trouble of long standing, foll sonseless Fri- day. His physician issued & death certificate, arrangements were made for the funeral and Saturday’s news- papers published eulogies of him. The pastor awoke after fourteen hours. surprised to find his bedroom filled with flowers, wreaths, disconsolate : and friends. NEW ORLEANS, March 21.—Physi- cians at a local hospital decided to furnish a complete record for medical journals of the case of Ben Hoelzel, fitty, who died Saturday after living twenty-six hours with his heart ex- posed to the eyes of the hospital sur- geons. While working in a local coffee- grinding plant Friday, Hoelzel's left sleeve was caught in & machine. His arm was mangled and a piece of flesh the size of a man's head was torn from his breast, leaving his heart ex- posed, the ribs directly over that organ also being torn away. The fact that the injured man lived twenty-six hours after the accident is said by physicians observing the case to be one of the most remarkable ever recorded in local practice. WIRE-TAPPING SWINDLER CAPTURED IN FLORIDA Man Sought for Three Years Found at West Palm Beach. WEST PALM BEACH. Fla., March 20—Frederick K. Buckminster of Chi- cago, known locally as “Fred Miller,” was arrested here today by Sheriff Baker of this county, charged with being a fugitive from justice from Illinois. Lieut. W. E. Baldwin of the Chicago police identifled Buckminster as having been convicted of conspir- acy. According to Lieut. Baldwin, Buck- minster was released on bond pending an appeal, disappeared, and for three years has been sought by the Chica- o police. Buckminster, declared the Chicago officer, fleeced a well known western financier out of $100,000 in & wire tapping scheme. HAVANA. March 21.—Reports of the discovery of a complete wire tapping outfit at Daytona, Fla.. yesterday morning and the confiscation of pool- room paraphernalia. including a blackboard showing the name “Inter- national Turf Exchanges, Branches in America, Canada and Cuba,” aroused great interest in this city. An investigation here, however, has developed that there is mno such branch in this city. Several “wire tapping” schemes have been carried out here in _the past, it is said, and several confiding persons have been victimized for sums reported up into the thousands. The methods of the sharpers here have been to rent a room equipped Wwith telegraphic and telephonic ap- paratus, whereby alleged advance in- formation was to be obtained on race vesults, affording the gullible one an opportunity to reap a fortune. CLARA HAMON BAPTISED AT ARDMORE CHURCH Slayer of Millionaire Embraced and Kissed by Members of Congregation. ARDMORE, Okla., March 21.—Clara Smith Hamon, acquitted here Thurs- day (of having murdered Jake L. Hamon, reputed millionaire and late republican national committeéman from Oklahoma, last night was bap- tized in the First Christian Church of Ardmore by Dr. Grayton 8. Brooks, its pastor. Mrs. G. J. James of Los Angeles, Calif., sister of Mrs. Hamon, was baptized at the same time. The baptism followed the Sunday {night service and was witnessed by her family, a number of friends and 'chun:h members. The ceremony was without incident, Mrs. Hamon accept- ing the baptismal rites while her family stood by and wept. Accompanied by her family, ‘Mrs. Hamon attended the morning service, after which she approached the pas- tor and asked for baptism. After her confession and declarations Dr. Brooks announced that Mrs. Hamon would be baptized. T After the ceremony friends and members of the church embraced the young woman, some shaking her hand and others taking her into their arms and kissing her. WANTS CASE ADVANCED. Solicitor General Frierson has ask- ed the United States - Supreme Court to advance to April 11 hearings in the appeal from the New York decree dismissing the government's application for an injunction to re- slrzlnlng the Western Union Tele- graph Company from landing a cable on the Atlantic coast without gov- ernment permission. The question invoived, Mr. Frier- son’s_petition said, was whether the President had the constitutional right to prevent such a landing, and was one of great importance to the gov- ernment, “involving the exercise of its sovereign rights."
