March 17.—During the greater part of the time today the stock market moved with great ir- regularity. There had been a lot of short covering yesterday and the rise nad been too rapid for mew buy to be Wwilling to follow. Morcover profits had accumulated in the hands of the active trading element which seemed pretty attractive. These were all technical circumstances tempora- rily working against the market and it was very significant that so large a part of the list stood up as strong- 1y at all, and this was an indication that the turn which came Tuesday aft- #rnoon and yesterday was looked upon as something more than tem- porary. Motors Are Firm. Motor and allied stocks. including tire shares, the motor accessory and they’ were among the strongest, as had been on previous days. Chandler, Studebaker, Stromberg. Ajax Rubber and United States Rubber were the leaders in this group.
