"~ -~ PRESIDENT SIGNS NEW WEIGHTS LAW Many Important Measures & Still Await Action by P the Executive. President Wilson today signed the ‘bill providing for a more stringent weights and measures law. Other local measures awaiting the President’s signature are for the clos- ing of Cedar street between Quiney and Shepherd streets, and one for the conveyance of lots on low ground in this city. | The weights and measures bill is deemed of great importance. Besides other things, it provides for a stan- dard size loaf of bread, for the first time in Washington—a loaf of speci- fled weight. It requires also the sale of ice by welght and the sale of fruits and vegetables in standard size boxes, and for the inspection of gaso- line-measuring machines at the fill- ing stations about the city. Tt also abolishes the collecting of fees from merchants for the inspec- tion of scales by the bureau of veights and measures. The instructors of the Dennison Manufacturing Co., New York, experts in making these costumes, will be here all this week, and will be very glad to show models and explain the method of making. Denni- son’s Crepe Paper is the material used, and as this is very strong and durable and is made in many beau- tiful shades and designs, it has proved to be the ideal fabric. Every holiday and nationality may be represented by appropriate regalia, and the expense, even for costuming many people, is comparatively slight. The instructors will also conduct classes in weaving with crepe paper rope, a form of basketry which is as durable and beautiful as raffia or reed, and much easier to do. The new sealing wax art and the use of crepe paper in table and hall decorating is very attractive. This is an opportunity which every teacher, hostess and entertainer—in fact, every one interested in the social life of this city—should take advantage of. There will be no charge for the instruction, and the time spent in seeing the exhibit will be well worth while. - Ny e 2 Misses® Apparel 2 Winter Coats, of navy French cheviot, sizes 14 and 16. $13 each; Srere insa: 3 Winter Suits, in reindeer and brown, ripple and straightline models, with nutria or sealine col- 1 size’ 16, $17.50 each; were 360 1 Black Charmeuse Dress, Per- slan ribbon girdle, size 16. $27.503 was 1 Navy Satin Junior Dress, lace collar’ and _cuffs, trimmed with pleated ruffles, size 17. $27.503 was ) 2 satin Dresses, with accordion pleated overskirts, in navy and brown, size 16. $27.30 each; were 1 Navy Taffeta Dress, with eye- let-embroidery, in henna silk, size 16. $18.30; was $25. 1 Navy Minuette Dress, trimmed with, gray silk stitching. separate ovétblouse, size 18. $18.50; was $29.50. 1 Blue Taffeta Dre: trimmed with ruffles, accord pleated overskirt, in apron effect, size 18. $18:50; was $27.50.
