Funeral Services and Interment at Arlington Cemetery Tomorrow— Story of Hix Death. Funeral services over the remains of young Norman B. North, who lost his life during the great hurricane which swept the Island of Porto Rico last August, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock in Arlington national cemetery. Mr. North was a son of Rev. Joseph B. and Mrs. Mary M. North, formerly of Anacostia, where Mr. North served as pastor of Garden Me- morial Presbyterian Church. The death was one of the most tragic that occurred during the terrible storm, and happened but a few days before he was to start for his home to resume a course at the Co- lumbian University. His body was recently brought here for burial. The services tomorrow will be conducted by Rev. M, P. Snell and Dr. N. H. Miller, —_——s 66 =a 9? ¢ Busy Cornet. COVER SHORT REDUCES Colored Man Accased of Biting Off a Cat's Tall. William Blackwoll, colored, was before the Police Court today accused of cruelty to animals. Agent Rabbit of the Humane Society prepared the charge against him, alleging that he bit off a cat's tail. Black- well was clipping a horse belonging to General Miles when the cat in question got in his way. A witness told the court that he saw the colored man pick up the cat, and when he put it down the end of the animal's tail was in his mouth. Blackwell admitted that he had the piece of the cat's tail in his mouth, but denied that he bit it off. The horse, he said, stepped on the tofi, and fearing the cat would get killed he putled it away. In doing so, he said, a piece of the tail came off and he did put it in his mouth to hold it. Agent Rabbit produced in evidence the piece of tail, which consisted of about an inch of hair and six inches of sinews. A fine of $5 was imposed by the court. AR B B00.—FO! 15 ODD BETS. Marder Trial. ‘The third day in the trial of Charles L. McUin for the alleged murder of Robert E. Turner in Dec2:mber last was marked this morning by another failure to secure a jury. Forty talesmen summoned for the day were examined, making sixty-five in all since the commencement of th2 case with- out twelve satisfactory jurors being se- cured. At 12:80 o'clock an adjournment was taken and by order of Justice Clabaugh of Criminal Court No. 1 forty additional talesmen were summoned to appear in rt forthwith, making a total of 105 pos- sible jurymen summoned. Court met again shortly before 3 o'clock and the examina- continued. ‘the detense at the noon adjournment yet had five peremptory challenges to exercise and tha United States one. Most of the jurors excused today for cause were either ill, according to certificates presented, or were opposed to capital punishment. The jury will undoubtedly be completed some time during the afternoon. ‘The crowd in the court room is increasing daily and interest in the case appears quite keen. —— TROUBLE OVER LEASE. Thatcher & Himes Apply to Court for an Injunction. Charles J. Thatcher and James M. Himes, trading as Thatcher & ‘Himes, today, through Attorneys T.A. @nd Wilton J. Lambert, filed a bill 1 equfty for injunc- tion and specific performance of an alleged agreement against the: firm of Thos. G. Hensey Company. The petition sets forth that the claimants havé for some time been conducting a lunch room at No. 320 12th street, under a lease from the defendants, which it is said ran for one year from Feb- ruary, 1898, with a privilege of renewal in February, 1900, for 3 further term of three years. It is avefred that when *the extension was demanded last February the same was refused, and in March a notice was sent demanding that the complainants vacate by May 1. It is charged that the alleged action by the defendants was in violation of com- plainants’ rights and an effort to deprive them of a good business acquired through their offorts, thus causing petitioners great financial injury. The court 1s asked to en- join the defendants pendente lite and per- manently from dispossessing complainants, and to require them to specifically per- form the agreement for an extension of lease. —————— .
