Four women occupied seats in the dock of Judge Scott's court this morning, filling the front bench. The only white woman in the party was Kate Sellers, who wae left a widow many years ago. “She has seen better days,” Policeman Flynn said, “and if she would jet liquor alone she would see them again. Found repeatedly drunk on Sth street was the charge upon which Kate was arraigned. “She lives in the house of colored people in Brown’s court,” said a policeman, “and she's always under the influence of liquor. Kate told the court that she is a hard- working woman, but said she has the rheu- matism in her foot just now. “If you will let me go this time I'll go to my sister's, at Cleveland Park.” The court released her on her own bond and told the policeman to arrest her if he should find her under the influence of lquor. Carrie Powell, who was charged with a similar offense, was fined $5, with fifteen days on the farm as the alternative. Maria Archer, a little colored woman, whose home is near New Jersey avenue and E street northwest, said: “I’m guilty this time.” “Maria is guilty, all right,” seid Police- man Lynch, “but I hope you will take her Personal bonds this time."’ tep up to the clerk,” said the judge, nd give your personal konds. The police- man {fs inclined to be merciful today.” Alice White admitted a charge of disor- derly conduct. She was rested this morning about 2 o'clock at the National flats, on N street. to see my broth- said James Davis. “She was his friend until lately and he ordered her to keep away from him.” ‘The trouble in the flat, he said, was the result of her early morning visit. Alice had nothing to say, and the usual penalty, $5 or two weeks on the farm, was imposed. —$<——_—— Missionary Conference.
