There is no better way to spend Dec- oration day than by taking a day trip on the swift-sailing Jane Moseley to Colon- ial Beach or Somerset Beach. There is no river in America that shows such beauti- ful scenery along its banks, and to the student of history hardly a foot on either side is passed that does not bring with it some recollection of historical interest. The arsenal, quaint old Alexandria, Forts Foote and Washington, Mt. Vernon and Gunston Hall, Indian Head and Aquic. Creek are passed in rapid succession, and such points as have been chosen by the War Depart- ment for the protection of Washington to stop the progress of the enemy's fleet, which, by the way, will never come within ” miles of our city., The Moscley leaves her wharf at N street at 8:30 a.m., arrives at the beach at 12345, giving excursionists plenty of time to enje good dinner and a salt water bath, reaching Washington at 9 to 9:30 o'clock p.m. Many improvements een made at the beach, the new and large pavilion having been remodeled, and is now run as a first-class restaurant and bathing resort. There are also quite a num- ber of first-class hotels on the beach. Pa- triotic music will be furnished by a first- class orchestra, both on the b and pz vilion. Splendid meals, is; ing all the delicacies of the season, ¥, the boat. be served on l Hall will be in gala attire on D tion day, and preparations have Leen made to entertain crowd Prof. Schroeder's Band w arse pa- iriotic airs, both on the boat id at the grounds. Dancirg and all the other various amusements at “the hall” will be in full swing. The steamer Charles Macalester will make three trips to Marshall Hall on Deco- ration day, and will leave 7th street wharf romptly at 10 am., 2:30 and 6:15 p.m. -arp. Planked shad dinner, including the femous Marshall Hall clam chowder, will be served for 75 cants. Mount Vernon, tne tomb of Washington, Will also be the objective point for the patriotic on Decoration day. Steamer Charles Macalester-will make two trips, a8 usval, at 10 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. Monday next, Decoration day, is a na- tional holiday, and, appreciating the fact that thousands of Washingtonians will wish to get out of town for a day's outing, Captain E. 8. Randall has arranged to run extra trips to River View in order to ac- commodate those who will visit that popu- lar resort. Timid people need not be afraid of a trip to River View because of the mines in the river off Fort Washington, for there is not cne within a half mile of the View wharf and the steamer does not have to go near them to make a landing. Monday at the View there will be music and dancing all day for those who are fond of it. The orchestra wii! be heard in concert on the steamer on all trips, and the chute and other attractions will be ready to afford pleasure to all. Those who wish to spend a quiet day reading or building air castles will find plenty of easy chairs on the hotel porch and grassy lawns, where they can sit and dream to their hearts’ content.
