Supper will be served about 11:30 o'clock. Afterward will follow a cotillio! The favors have been ordered from Ne York, snd they are said te be exceedingly appropriate and attractive. Golf vol which are now quite the fad at country club balls, will be given for the first time in Washington. Quite a contingent from out-of-town country clubs, especially those near Philadelpnia and Baltimore, ts ex- pected. The local invitation list is confined to members of the Chevy Chase Club and the Bachelors. The committee which has charge of the ball intends decorating the ball room and other parts of the club house in a novel and tasteful manner. Plants, bunting, electric lights, trophies of the hunt, links and courts will be seen in the ball room, and every effort will be made to make the club house attractive to the eye. The butiding has just been en- larged, heated by steam, repapered, re- painted, and the members of the club are quite enthusiastic over its appearance and comforts. The club now owns its propert: which is a beautiful site, and in all spects seems to be on the high road of suc- cess. Golf has become a leading feature of the club. Daily the links are enthusiasti- cally patronized, and highly creditabic scores are made by male and female play- ers. The little charity ball that will occur this evening at Carroll Institute Hall from all indications will be one of the most enjoy- able social events thus far this season. An assembly will be danced until 10 o’clock, when refreshments are to be served. Half an hour later the dancers will form for the cotillion, under the leadership of Mr. George Thomas Cox. Mr. Cox is chairman cf the committee of arrangements for the tall, the other mem- bers being A. Herbert Oliver, Dr. Charles E. O’Ccnnor, J. Edwin Young and George H. O'Connor. The board of trustees of the boys’ reform school held its annual meeting at the school yesterday afternoon and organized for the ensuing year by the re-election of Cecil Clay as president, John E. Carpenter as vice president, and Samuel W. Curriden 48 secretary. The boys in the school now number 287, a larger number than ever before enrolled there. Only two of this, number are reported as under the phy- sician’s care. The production of the vari- ous shops, as well as the farm and green- heuses, is reported to be in excess of recent years. These industries in no way interfere with the regular sessions of the ' schools in the varicus families. The work in the manual training school, it is cald, gives promise of very satisfactory results, The aim ts to give every boy an equal o; portunity in this branch of study. “i The board yesterday made a preliminary svrvey of the grounds with a view to locat- ing the assembly hall, for which an Ap- Lrepriation has been asked of Congress. The need of this structure, it is contended, §rows more and more xpparent every year. It is desired that this building shall com- tine within its walls an assembly hall for chapel purposes and for other general gath- erings of all the families; a gymnasium, where setting-up drills of ‘all the families can be had in inclement weather and evens ings, and also a brary and reading room, to which access can be given to deserving honor” and “discharge” boys at proper limes, as a reward for good conduct. The board consists of seven members: Messrs. N. W. Burchell, John E. Carpenter, “ectl Clay, James E. Fitch, Crosby 8. Noyes, William M. Shuster, jr. and Wil- Nam 8.
