The citizens of Brookland hope that this is the beginning of a similar walk to continue slong the Bunker Hill road to Queen's Chapel road, where it is much needed. Dr. aud Mra. H. J. BRIGHTWOOD. ‘Thursday evening Ruth Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, gave a lawn fete at the residence of Mr. W. FE. Halley. The spacious shady lawns presented a most beautiful scene, with the bunting, decorations and flags, with hundreds of Japanese lanterns that Jent charm to the picture. It was for the benefit of the piano fund of the lodge and proved most Successful financially, as well as socially. A string orchestra furnished choice selections of music dur- ing the entire evening. The refreshment and fancy tables were in charge of the respective ladies of the committee, which Is a standing one on enter- tainments, whose chairman is Mr. John A. Much interest was manifested in the sunrise prayer meetings of the two days, and they were largely attended. The humorous lecture entitled “The Virginia Boom of 1896,"" delivered at the opera house Tuesday evening by Judge C. Forest Moore of Virginia, drew a large audience, all of whom were loud in thelr praises of the talented 4 ‘The commencemept exercises at Briarley Hall Seminary, near Voolesville, were of a very inter- esting character, embracing choice musical selec- essays, addrerses, &-.
