Mrs. Albin Fairall, wife of Counc!Iman Fairall of the first ward, has returned from a visit to friends in Wasbington. Mrs. William Henry Harrison was the gvest of friends in Weshington this week. Messrs. George Waters, jr., and J. Spald- ing Flannery have returned from_a short trip to Philadelphia. Corporal John Lillibridge of the Mary- land Agricultural College, was the guest of his parents here recently. Mr. H. Allen Isen, who is connected with the Interior Department, Washington, left yesterday for a ten days’ trip to the At- Janta exposition, Rey. ard Mrs. J. R. Fizer are attending the convention of the Maryland Baptist Union in Baltimore this week. Capt. Joseph W. Collins, who was chief of the United States fishery exhibit at the. world’s Columbian exposition, has gone to Chicago to attend the reunion of the world’s fair chiefs. A number of surveyors for the Maryland and Columbia glectric railroad are in Lau- rel today for the purpose, it is understood, of surveying a new route for the electric read. It is believed to be the intention of the railroad people to take a route running through the western portion of the city, in- stead of threugh the central part, as at first surveyed. A masquerad: party was given at the home of the Misses English, on Montgom- ery street, Monday evenirg. Dancing, amus>ments of various kinds and refresh- ments were features of the evening. Those present were Misses Ressie and Nora Gray, Rose and Pearl Leatherwood, Ida Harding, Eifie Morrison and Emma Carr, and Messrs. Joseph Wynkoop, Louis Burton, William Carr, Ray Martin, Benj. Taylor and Walter Grady. The telephone line between Laurel and Bandy Spring is now in operation. There are about six telephones In Laurel. The line between Sandy Spring and Laurel is twelve miles in length. —_ FOREST GLEN. Mrs. J. W. Blackburn and Master George Craddock returned yesterday from a two months’ visit to relatives in Kentucky. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Duvall and children of Germantown are the guests of Mr. Du- vail's mother, Mrs. Emily Duvall. Mr. Duehay and family of Washington have moved in the house belonging to Mr. George W. Duvall, on the corner of St. Paul street and Highlend avenue. An enthusiastle republican rally was held Tast night at the unfinished town hall, Mayor R. bB. Detrick presiding. The at- tendance of a goodly number of ladies marked the usual feature of Kensington Tepublican meetin, A_ brass band dis- coursed music. Mr. Marion Dorian, secre- tary of the county committee, opened with a few remarks, and gave way to Mr. Will- fam A. Meloy, state senator from Prince George’s county. He was followed by Mr. Arthur Stabler of Sandy Springs, who paid @ forceful tribute to the character of Lloyd Lowndes,whom he characterized as the next governor. Mr. Thomas C. Noyes, chair- man of the county committee, ni lowed. He said the village of Ker Was a fair sample of what republican rule would do for Maryland. The unkempt farms which he remembered years azo about the station were emblematic of the stagnation and inertress of the democracy. ‘The enterprise which had built this beau- tiful suburb was the work of republicans mainly, and, if republicans were given the Chance, they would do for Montgomery county and the whole state what they had done for this section. Mr. B. H. Warner made the closing address, who said the officers of registration trumped up every tecbateality imaginable against the registry of a republican. Their assessment laws were so framed that the man who came io beautify and improve the roads, the homes and farms of the county was really fined for his enterprise, and paid nearly all the taxes, while denied a voice in the manage- ment of the funds. All he wanted was a fair show to educate his children to become useful, intelligent citizens. Farquhar, who have been’ visiting Mr. and Mrs. Farquhar on the Bunker Hill road, have returned to their home in York, Pa. The Brookland citizens are much gratified to seo that the board walks are being at- tended to. This has been greatly needed for some time, and the citizens hope there will be no delay in the work. Politics in Prince George’s county are be- coming red hot, and will continue so till the day of election. ‘The democratic and repub- lican parties are holding meetings each night In the different parts of the county. A rousing democratic meeting was held last night at Lanham's station, in Bladensburg district. The meéting was called to order and -presided over by Carvell Beckett. Fereible speeches were made by Wm. I. Hill of Marlboro’, C. C. Magruder of Marl- boro’, Benj. D. Stephen, candidate for house of delegates; P. A. Scagzs, candidate for county treasurer; Jos. L. Wilson, candidate for state's attorney, and Elbert Dent of IMadensburg. An enthusiastic meeting was held by the republicans last night at Bowie. John W. Belt, chairman of the republican state cen- tral committee, called the meeting to order. Rey. Mr. Williams, a colored preacher, pre- sided. Effective speeches were made by Cept.
