Church, Georgetown, to Mount Moriah A.M. E. Church of Annapolis, ‘Md. Dr. Hill bas served in the pulpit at Ebenezer for three years. This is a long period of service at one stand for an A. M. E divine. When the retiring pastor came to Georgetown Ebenezer was in a run-down way. It seemed as though the congregation was weak-kneed in purse and faith. The church has been remod- eled, enlarged and in many ways improved. Its congregation is large, thrifty and energetic: the Sunday school promises well and is | keeping its promise, and the various church societies are on a healthy basin Dr. Hill became especially well known to col-| cred Washington through his connection | with the Campbell Grove camp meetings. which were conducted by his brother-in-law, Kev. F. Jesse Peck, jr. He is a native of’ western ‘Maryland, a graduate of Lincoln University of | Chester county, Pa, and filled his first charge | st Elkton, Md.” His transfer is » promotion. Dr. Hill will be succeeded by Rev. Dr. D. P. Seaton of Baltimore. Fourteen months ago Dr. Seaton was given a great farewell reception at Campbell A. Minor, from the Gulf of Iskenderun to the Alexandria as far to the southward as Edfoo, midway between Karnak and the first cataract. He assume charge of Ebenezer about the third Sunday in May. DEGENERACY OF THE RECEIVING RESERVOIR. Mr. Charles Hines of Tenleytown says that the receiving reservoir hax degenerated into a sewer basin. The country for miles about | drains into it. The wash from the Chevy | Chase country, the Oak View region, Bethesds | and Tenleytown goes into it. It is further pol- Iuted by Falls branch. He thinks the plan pro- | posed by Col. Elliott is the most feasible remedy. A PRIVATE WEATHER BURRAU. Mr. M. F. Burrows, late of the signal service, hhusestablished x weather bureau on a reduced scale at Brace’s pharmacy. He has fitted ther- mometers, barometers, rein and wind gauges, | and proposes to establish a bulletin trom which | the passer-by may read the result of his obser- vations. The scheme promises to attract mucia attention. GOING TO TARE MM. CLEVELAND FISHING. ‘Mr. Gallaher bas received a letter from Un- ele Pennyfield in which he says that he expects | tocome down some time in June to escort | President Cleveland up country to the Penny- field fish ranch Mr. Pennytield has enter- tained the President before. He writes that | perch are in full bloom and that bass are ripe, | | and he reckons he can make Grover see a large | time. He would like to have Mra. Cleveland and Miss Ruth come up, rough it, go bare- | footed and meet the neighbors, but he writes) that he fears his feeding and bedding accom- | odations might not be exactly up to date. | Bir. Pennyfeid is not after ofice. BOCK CREEK ON THE RAMMAGH, ' Rock creek is turgid. swollen and muddy. No danger is apprehended, but it is strange to see the sewery little stream which isolates | \W Georgetown from the United States foaming | re and eddying in excitement. Few people would suspect it of such vigor, but Rock creek drains a vast watershed, and its present condition is | ,| ‘the result of the recent rains. LOOKING FOR FLOWER THIEVES. Flower thieves annoy settlers in the uptown districts, A night does not pass that some lilac hedge is not sealped or some hyacinth bed de- | ***_ flowered. Flowers that bloom near the street | VW" are reasonably sure of capture, and even those | was) which blossom in back yards are being aa | ‘The police have been asked to interfere. NOTES. tons of hay. for George T. Dunlop. ‘The establishmentofa ‘stage line to Little WW" Falls and adjacent points of interest is being talked of. Frank, the eight-year-old son of Mr. and ter an illness that lasted all winter. “Teoaee have bees made to the patrol wagon | of No. 7. Property owners on N street between 324 and Potomac streets claim that the gas lamp at the corner of $24 and N, which has been ren- | dered useless by the putting up of an electric light, should be removed to the middie of thei square, as for 300 yards the place is not illumi- nated at night. Walter A. Fleming yesterday sold to John 8. Larcombe 2 3-100 acres of Grasslands, once ex- Secretary Whitney's country home. The price obtained was $5,000. In Wesley Heights yesterday W. DP. Church on the evening of | the second Sunday in May. end gardens. ‘The M street and Pennsylvania ayenue reset- | vation is being improved, and the fountain has been turned loose. Mr. Russell Bowen will «pend his vacation in the Blue Ridge of Virgin’ A great many anglers seek the up-river region dailz. They cast their lines and come back with stories of good luck, but no fish. ‘They tell of their big catches in such a gloomy style that they discredit their statements, Once in a while a Waltonian comes down, | \qr ordersa drink and suys with emphasis, “The | fishing is no good.” Prof. A. 8.
