EMANOLIPATION DAY. Another Meeting of Colored Citizens Favor- ing @ Street Parade. ‘The meeting of the James W. Poe faction of the colored people who favor an emancipation parade this year Tuesday night resulted in the withdrawal of members of the Cox-Lewis fac- tion, as published in yesterday's Stax, and last night Maj. Cox called a meeting at Lewis Hall on F street southwest. After prayer by Robert Willis Maj. Cox proceeded to tell something of the meeting of the opposing faction, held the night previous. Sidney Herbert was then chosen temporary chairman and in accepting the honor spoke against the advisability of having a strect parade. He said he had seen enough street perades, where the young men and women danced along the pavement beside every band | and made themselves ridiculous. What he ’ people could go and listen to something that would benefit them. It was apparent that the temporary chairman did not voice the sentiments of the majority, for most of them wanted a parade, and those | who wanted to reply to his remarks were ruled William H. Brown was selected to act as sec- retary, and a committee on credentials was ap- pointed and a speaker said he wanted none of | the Poe faction to be recognized, and paid his respects to that faction in terms not compli- mentary. While the committee was out Ralph Wormley made an address favoring a street pa- rade, and saying that the colored people wanted | a new start under the coming admiistra- | tion. He wanted them to make a good appear- | ance on the street and show the new adminis tration what can be done by the colored people of the District. The report of the committee on credentials | was then made, showing that eight of the twenty-two districts and ten clubs were repre- sented. An el ction was then held, which resulted in the selection of George W. Stewart, permanent chairman; William H. Brown, secretary; York Smith, assistant secretary, und Maj. W. C.
