Crxorsxatt, Onto, Dec. 30.—The four-story brick building at the corner of 4th and Elm streets caught fire from #ome unknown cause at an early hour this morning. The lower floor was unoccupied, but the upper part of the building was occupied by colored families. Amd scence of wild excitement the firemen succerded in getting all out in safety. During the work of rescue all sorts of rumors regarding lows of life were current. Walter Hawes, a young colored man, was seen to jum, from the top of the burning building, but it was found that he landed on the roof of ‘an ad- Joining house without serious injury. The fire was extinguished, but not until the building was gutted. The ‘loss will not be heavy, as preparations were being made to tear the building down. e FACTORY GIRLS REACURD. Crrvetaxn, O10, Dec. 30.—Fire this fore- noon damaged the Cleveland glass fixture fac- tory.at the corner of Bond und Rockwell to the building, which is owned by Col. John Hay, will amount to #5000. Three girls, who were working on the fourth floor, were ‘over- come by smoke and fainted. Firemen reacued them with considerable difficulty.
