Y., in 1880, A horse, which had been many years in the service, was taken sick and «new one put in his place while the former was being doc- tored, he being hitched in an extra stall. One evening the alarm sounded and the team, in which was the new horse, started for the fire, but before reaching the scene of the fire # old horse, having broken his halter, came tear- ing along and took his place alongside the team and so went on to the fire, where he was caught and led bac!
